Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he is retiring from international football, ending a Portugal career of more than two decades. In a social media post, the 41-year-old said he would hand back the No 7 shirt after the November international break, according to The Guardian.
Ronaldo has made 234 appearances for Portugal and scored 146 goals, both all-time records. ESPN reports that the decision follows a fall-out with coach Jorge Jesus. Mundo Deportivo says he had left the squad's camp before the announcement.
RMC Sport, citing A Bola, reports that the announcement came the day before the squad list was due.
