Cristiano Ronaldo's 2008 Ballon d'Or win has been named the greatest of all time after he prevailed in the inaugural Ballon d'Or of All Time (B.O.A.T.) award, launched this year by UEFA and France Football and decided by a public fan vote.
Ronaldo's landmark season with Manchester United, in which he claimed the 2008 prize, topped the poll ahead of Lionel Messi's 2012 victory and Fernando Torres, according to Mundo Deportivo. The result was announced on Wednesday.
The award effectively crowns the single finest individual Ballon d'Or campaign across the entire history of the trophy, with fans from around the world casting votes to determine the winner.
Ronaldo, now 41 and playing for Al-Nassr, claimed his first Ballon d'Or in 2008 during one of the most celebrated seasons of his career at Old Trafford.
