Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, ending his career with Portugal. He made the announcement on Thursday in a video posted on social media, Mirror reports.
According to BBC Sport, he played 234 times for his country and scored 146 goals. His 11 World Cup goals came across six tournaments since 2006.
The announcement comes a month after a public row with coach Jorge Jesus, which L'Équipe describes as a psychodrama. Jesus has since commented on the decision, according to Sabah and Sport Bild.
Portugal Football Federation president Pedro Proença paid tribute to Ronaldo, TuttoMercatoWeb reports, saying he set an example for anyone who wants to be the best. Former international teammate Adrien Silva told RMC Sport he regretted that the exit was not as grand as Ronaldo deserves.
FootVal's valuation of Ronaldo is €6.3m, against his market value of €10m on Transfermarkt. The 41-year-old plays for Al-Nassr under a contract until June 2027 and has scored 8 goals in 10 appearances this season.
