Borussia Dortmund beat Real Betis 2-1 on Wednesday at the Signal Iduna Park in the Champions League league stage. Fábio Silva put Dortmund ahead in the 49th minute, Aitor Ruibal equalised in the 67th, and Konstantinos Karetsas scored the winner in the 72nd.
Karetsas came on for Serhou Guirassy, who was forced off. Der Spiegel reported that the 18-year-old had to go on earlier than planned. Coach Niko Kovac said Guirassy felt discomfort in his thigh and, according to Transfermarkt, does not expect a long layoff.
Kicker reported that Karetsas was briefly out of sight when Kovac wanted to bring him on, and Kovac later joked about it. Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken praised the team's energy in difficult circumstances.
Dortmund have 9 points from four games and sit 12th in the league phase. They host SV Elversberg in the Bundesliga on Saturday. FootVal values Karetsas at €38m, against €35m on Transfermarkt. He has 6 appearances this season with 2 assists, and his contract runs until June 2031.
