China's ambassador to Spain, Yao Jing, said his government is in communication with LaLiga, Real Madrid and other Spanish bodies over remarks by Kylian Mbappé, which he called an unfortunate accident. According to Mundo Deportivo, he asked for time to digest words that have hurt people in his country.

The row started in an interview with ESN's programme The Bridge, where Mbappé said his favourite meme put his face on the body of a Chinese dictator. El Mundo reports that the club and the player have since issued apologies. Ge reports that Mbappé has also lost sponsorships in China.

Ge reports that there are no negotiations, only communication based on mutual understanding. Foot Mercato describes the mood as easing.
