Maxence Lacroix is likely to be sidelined until 2027 with a hamstring injury, Chelsea and Fabrizio Romano have indicated, in an update that goes beyond the initial six-week estimate. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri had earlier reported a Grade 3 hamstring tear, with a minimum absence of six weeks.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed at his press conference that Lacroix would be unavailable until after the international break. BBC Sport report that the club fear the lay-off could be lengthy, while Romano states he is unlikely to return before the new year.
France have already ruled Lacroix out of their next Nations League gathering, according to RMC Sport and L'Équipe. The 26-year-old was forced off during Chelsea's match against Liverpool.
Lacroix has made eight appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season, averaging a rating of 6.76 according to FootVal, which values him at €62m — slightly above his Transfermarkt market value of €60m. His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until June 2032.
