Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital, five days after collapsing at Bayern Munich's training ground. Bayern's board member for sport, Max Eberl, confirmed the news and said the head coach was "doing well".
Eberl told German television that Kompany's viral infection had been diagnosed as meningeal irritation — an irritation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord — which can trigger painful muscle spasms. Kompany had been airlifted to hospital after the incident.
The Daily Mail reported that Kompany dislocated his shoulder during the fall. He was not on the touchline for Bayern's DFB-Pokal tie against Magdeburg, a match in which Michael Olise scored twice as Bayern advanced to the last 16, according to already published reports.
According to the Mirror, Kompany will remain absent from the touchline for the foreseeable future as he recovers. Eberl offered his update ahead of that cup fixture, signalling that Bayern are managing carefully around their manager's recovery.
