Chelsea striker João Pedro will be sidelined for several weeks after sustaining a thigh injury in training, manager Xabi Alonso confirmed in a press conference. The Brazilian, who missed the recent match against Tottenham, will not be available for Chelsea's upcoming fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester United.
"João has suffered a thigh injury, he won't be available for few weeks," Alonso said, adding that an exact return date cannot be set at this stage. Kicker reports that Emanuel Emegha could make his debut as a result of the absence.
The 25-year-old has been Chelsea's standout forward this season, scoring five goals and adding three assists in six appearances for an average rating of 7.60 according to FootVal data, which values him at €105m. His absence is a significant blow as the club faces a demanding run of fixtures.
