Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said he does not understand why Alexander Isak was not awarded a penalty in his side's 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, and he will tell his players to go down inside the box in future. According to The Guardian, Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber pulled the shirt of Isak in the first half, and referee Andy Madley rejected the appeal. Iraola said: 'If you don't go down, you don't call it.'
Kai Havertz scored the only goal early on, after a poor clearance from goalkeeper Alisson. Liverpool had two penalty claims turned down, and ESPN reports that the VAR did not intervene over the Timber incident. According to The Guardian, it was Arsenal's first win at Anfield in 14 years, and they are now league leaders, as BBC Sport notes.
Virgil van Dijk was also frustrated after the match. Mundo Deportivo reports that he pointed to the number of cameras covering the incident, saying everyone had seen it. The Sky Sports Ref Watch panel also debated whether a penalty should have been given.
According to FootVal's data, Isak has six goals in eight Premier League appearances this season. FootVal's valuation of him is €84m, below the €90m his market value on Transfermarkt. The defeat leaves Liverpool behind Arsenal in the table.
