Inter grind out win at Venezia despite laboured display, Chivu admits

Inter claimed three points in Venice but struggled throughout, with manager Chivu conceding the team were unrecognisable and the result kept pace with Lazio, Roma and Como.

Inter Milan secured a victory away at Venezia in Serie A, but the performance was far from convincing, with manager Cristian Chivu openly acknowledging that his side were difficult to recognise on the pitch.

Chivu, speaking after the match, said the display reminded him of a past defeat at Catania, an unusual admission that underlined how uncomfortable the evening had been. The result nonetheless allowed Inter to respond to wins by Lazio, Roma and Como, keeping the pressure on their title rivals.

Marcus Thuram was rested for the fixture, with Ange-Yoan Bonny leading the attack. Bonny has scored twice in seven Serie A appearances this season, according to FootVal data, and FootVal's valuation of the Ivorian forward stands at €36m, in line with his €35m market value.

The goalkeeper situation also came under scrutiny following the display, with reports suggesting Chivu now faces a genuine choice between Josep Martinez and Ivan Provedel ahead of the Milan derby.
