Everton left Jack Grealish out of their Carabao Cup fourth-round squad to face Newcastle United after the club stated he was unavailable "due to a breach of club discipline". The club made the unusual move of announcing the disciplinary reason on social media alongside the team announcement.
The Guardian reported that Grealish is understood to have missed training ahead of the match. Manager David Moyes named his side without the winger, who has been on loan at Everton from Manchester City.
Despite Grealish's absence, Everton progressed in the competition, defeating Newcastle 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Fleetwood Town, the fourth-division side who knocked out Arsenal on penalties in the previous round.
Grealish, 31, has made six appearances for Everton in the 2026/27 season without scoring or providing an assist. FootVal's valuation of the left winger stands at €12.4m, below his Transfermarkt market value of €20m. His loan contract with Everton runs until June 2027.
