Olivier Giroud settled the 125th derby du Nord with a goal in the closing minutes as Lille beat RC Lens 1-0 in Ligue 1. The 40-year-old striker came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute and produced what Maisfutebol described as a spectacular left-footed finish.
The win is Giroud's third goal of the season and keeps Lille firmly in the Ligue 1 title race. According to Le Monde, the result leaves the Dogues two points behind PSG, who earlier dismantled Le Havre 5-1.
After the match, Giroud suggested he still intends to push for a starting place, saying he is "encore là pour poser des problèmes au coach" — still there to give the coach selection headaches. RMC Sport reports that despite retirement at the end of the season remaining an option, Giroud is focused on taking Lille as high as possible.
