Fenerbahçe have reached an agreement with Sergio Conceição to become their new head coach, multiple Turkish outlets report, following the departure of İsmail Kartal. Habertürk reported that Conceição has been invited to Istanbul and is expected to travel there in the near future.
NTV Spor adds that the decision on Conceição was made in part thanks to positive references the club received, with both Jorge Jesus and Pep Guardiola said to have endorsed the appointment. Portuguese outlet Record also cited Habertürk in reporting that an agreement had been reached, noting that Jorge Jesus gave his blessing to the move.
Conceição, 51, is currently without a club. He is best known for his seven-year spell at Porto, where he won 13 trophies. Aykut Kocaman and Emre Belözoğlu had also been mentioned as candidates in earlier reports before Conceição emerged as the frontrunner.
Fenerbahçe's squad is valued at €249m according to FootVal, and the club will be looking for a significant upturn in form after their recent home defeat to Göztepe.
