Cruzeiro are champions of South America for the first time after beating Corinthians in the 2026 Copa Libertadores Feminina final in Quito, Ecuador. The match ended 4-4 after normal time and Cruzeiro won the penalty shootout 5-4.

The result was remarkable given that Cruzeiro were losing 3-0 at one stage, only to level the scores in the final minute of the second half and force the shootout. It was the club's first-ever participation in the tournament.

Top scorer Byanca Brasil, who finished as the competition's leading goalscorer with six goals, was emotional after the final whistle. According to ge, she revealed she had considered not travelling to the tournament. 'I lived everything at Cruzeiro: my worst moment and my best moment,' she said.

The title breaks Corinthians' dominance of the competition and marks a historic moment for women's football in Minas Gerais.
