Spain's football federation (RFEF) has postponed all 24 Copa del Rey first-round fixtures scheduled for Wednesday after a fatal high-speed train crash in the province of Toledo, south of Madrid.
At least 64 people were killed and 179 others injured when two high-speed trains collided between the towns of Los Yebenes and Urda, making it Spain's worst rail disaster since 2013, according to talkSPORT. The crash also caused widespread rail disruption across the country.
The RFEF stated that the matches had been suspended "as a sign of respect and solidarity with all the victims of the tragic train accident." Real Madrid and Barcelona are among the clubs that expressed their deepest sorrow at the tragedy, according to The Athletic.
No new dates for the postponed fixtures have been announced. The collision in the Andalusia region has prompted a national outpouring of grief.
