Carrick to take charge of Manchester United against Chelsea on Saturday

The manager led training at Carrington on Tuesday and now expects to be in the dugout for the Premier League fixture, sources have told ESPN.

Michael Carrick will be in charge of Manchester United when they face Chelsea on Saturday, sources have told ESPN, despite ongoing uncertainty about his long-term future at the club.

Carrick took training at Carrington on Tuesday, a session that had been in doubt after reports on Monday evening suggested it was still unclear whether he would remain in his role.

United's board has been deliberating over Carrick's position following a 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth, but he appears to have been given the opportunity to lead the side into at least one more fixture.

The match against Chelsea, whose squad carries a Transfermarkt value of €1.15bn compared to United's €929m, represents a significant test for Carrick as he attempts to shore up his position at Old Trafford.
