Manchester United lost 2-0 at Chelsea at the weekend after Lisandro Martínez was sent off in the second half for two yellow cards picked up within 82 seconds, according to Daily Mail. The second booking came after a challenge on Wesley Fofana, leaving United to finish with ten men.

The defender was already in the spotlight after being fined for comments aimed at the club's hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox. According to The Guardian, Michael Carrick says he is not concerned about the defender's attitude and that his commitment is not an issue.

Sky Sports' Ref Watch team debated whether the challenge deserved a straight red. Nicky Butt, writing in the Daily Mail, called Martínez a 'bluffer' and a 'cheat' and argued he should be the first player to leave in January.

Martínez is expected to keep his place for United's Champions League visit of Roma on Tuesday, as the club look to end a difficult run of results. ESPN reports that Carrick has 'no concerns' about the defender's commitment.

FootVal values Martínez at €32m, 29% below his market value of €45m on Transfermarkt. The 28-year-old's contract runs until June 2027, and he has played eight matches this season, averaging a 6.57 rating.
