Manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Benjamin Šeško will be sidelined for an extended period due to a shin injury. "Unfortunately, Ben looks like he's going to be out for a period of time," Carrick said, adding that the club is "still not clear of exactly how long, but it's going to be for a longer period of time." BBC Sport and The Athletic had earlier reported the lay-off would last until at least January.
The 23-year-old Slovenian has not featured since September and requires a period of rest to ensure a full recovery. He had made four appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once, before the injury ended his involvement.
Sesko's absence deepens the problems facing Carrick, whose own position is under scrutiny. According to Mundo Deportivo, United sit fifth from bottom in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone.
FootVal values Šeško at €77m, marginally above his Transfermarkt market value of €75m. He joined United on a contract running until June 2030.
