Barcelona fined €602 by Spanish FA over approach for Julián Álvarez

The RFEF sanctioned Barcelona under Article 133 for failing to notify Atlético Madrid in writing before contacting the striker. Barcelona plan to appeal.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has fined Barcelona €602 following a complaint by Atlético Madrid over the club's approach for striker Julián Álvarez during the summer transfer window.

Atlético accused Barcelona of contacting the Argentine international without first notifying them in writing, as required by regulations. The fine was imposed under Article 133 of the RFEF's rulebook, which covers failure to comply with regulatory obligations, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Barcelona intend to appeal the sanction, El Chiringuito TV reports. The fine, while largely symbolic given the sums involved in modern football, represents an official acknowledgement that the club breached protocol in its pursuit of the forward.

Álvarez, 26, remains at Atlético Madrid under a contract running until June 2030. FootVal values him at €115m, slightly above his Transfermarkt market value of €110m. He has made six appearances in the 2026/27 season, scoring one goal and registering one assist.
