Aston Villa will not take legal action against Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, according to BBC Sport, ending a dispute that began with remarks he made on a podcast. The club had said on Friday that it would sue him over comments in which he told Villa supporters to be quiet, and reports say it has now dropped that threat.
Villa's statement, shared on club channels in the name of co-owner Nassef Sawiris, had called Carragher's comments unacceptable insults. The Daily Mail and the Evening Standard reported the change of course, while the Mirror said the club had signalled it was retracting the threat after the apology.
Carragher apologised for his comments, and talkSPORT reported that he called the wording he used when speaking about the club clumsy and wrong. Reports on the matter agree on the outcome, though they differ in how they describe the timing of the club's decision.
No further legal steps have been reported.
