Arsenal's Dowman to serve three-match ban after red card appeal rejected

An independent commission dismissed both the appeal against the card and the suspension handed to the 16-year-old following his sending-off against Fleetwood.

Arsenal's Max Dowman will serve a three-match suspension after an independent commission rejected the club's appeal against his red card and the ban that followed from their Carabao Cup defeat at Fleetwood Town.

Dowman, 16, was sent off in the 85th minute for kicking out at Harrison Neal after what The Guardian described as a bruising tackle. Fleetwood, a League Two side, won the tie on penalties after a 1-1 draw, eliminating Arsenal from the competition.

The commission dismissed both Arsenal's challenge to the red card itself and to the three-game suspension imposed. According to FootVal's valuation, Dowman is valued at €52m, making him one of the most valuable teenagers in English football.

Ray Parlour, a former Arsenal player, was quoted by the Daily Mail urging Dowman to learn from the incident.
