Xabi Alonso has dismissed any prospect of a January loan move for Estêvão and said the 19-year-old winger responded well when called upon in Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United.
Alonso had been pressed repeatedly about Estêvão's limited role before the match, with speculation growing after the Brazilian sat as an unused substitute in Chelsea's Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool on penalties. The manager was unequivocal: 'No discussions about that. Everyone has to be ready.' He described the situation as part of an adaptation process rather than a reflection on the player's attitude.
After the win, Alonso praised the winger's performance as a sign of what is to come. L'Équipe reported he said Estêvão had shown he deserved more playing time, while BBC Sport noted the manager highlighted his positive response to limited gametime.
Estêvão joined Chelsea from Palmeiras and has made six appearances in the current campaign without a goal or assist. His market value and FootVal's valuation both stand at €80m, and he is contracted at Stamford Bridge until June 2033.
